TEGMA TECHNIQUES

1. Who are you and where are you from exactly?

We are Omar Chelly (26) and Jason Orfanidis (24) living in a town called Malmö located in the south of Sweden.

2. Tell us a bit about your normal day life ?

Coffee in the morning, Jason works in Copenhagen and Omar studies in a university outside of Malmoe. We normally work in the studio when we have free time and that’s mainly in weekends and holidays.

3. What do you think of the today's scene generally? What direction is
it taking, what moments you like or dislike?

Today’s trance scene is more overground, normal people that liked to go out clubbing now show up in trance parties, and that’s really nice because this music is growing and getting more global. The vibe is still there and there is a feeling of community and friendliness in trance parties which you can’t find elsewhere. The music on the other side today this scene is a bit more divided into fullon psytrance and the proggier and clubbier trance. That’s nice but these two directions should come closer so that the parties and music can be more variated and thus keeping the scene alive.


4.What do you think of the growing number of the labels and the quality of the music
released nowadays?

When there are a lot of labels then there is a need of artists and vise versa. When all the labels want to release and create a name they just release everything that’s ok or even mediocre and they don’t care about quality music. That’s the bad thing with too many labels and artists. That makes artists to just want to release and they don’t have that pressure to get better as producers.

4a. The Story behind Tegma is not really usual; you have been friends from childhood on. Did this give you an advantage in music production?

Yes absolutely, since we know each other so well we can also communicate better. This means it’s easier for us to work together in the studio and we agree on most issues.


4b. Compared to all the older releases, how do you see your music today. Is it really Avant.Garde or is this title expressing something else !?

We think it was a perfect name to pick for this album since for us it was a new way of expressing ourselves, by producing differently and trying to create something new and not too similar to the productions that we have done before. Our aim with this album was to try to create an album which can be appreciated by all types of Psy-Trance listeners, but still remain true to our roots.The reason for this is that we wanted to take the Tegma sound further, always in search for something new.






5.Whats your opinion about the straight melting of Styles at the moment ? Producers and Djs from totally diffrent mayor styles get closer together ?

It is certainly good that styles are melting together, since it allows a number of new people to discover psytrance. We are now seeing people from the house and techno scenes attending trance events and that is a good sign. This also refreshes the sound of the scene and breaks borders.


6. What are your origins how did you come to electronic music ???


For Jason he got introduced to Psy Trance by his cousin in Greece back in 1994 and ever since then he has been hooked to trance. Omar has listened to a lot of music since he was kid and his first introduction to electronic music was by listening to his father’s old records.


7.Why did you decide to become djs and producers ?

It wasn’t really a decision because we have always been interested in music, even though we never had the chance to learn to play any instruments.
However we feel that music plays a big role in our life, and we felt that by producing music we found the best way to express ourselves.


8.Which DJs and acts have influenced your style?

A lot of people but some of the most important labels for us has been; Platipus, Novatekk, Digital Structures and Spiral Trax.

9.What was the best or funniest experience in your career???

One of the funniest was certainly in VOOV Festival where a girl started to strip and doing “other” stuff to herself while we were performing our liveset. Unforgettable!!

10.What was the worst, unluckiest or strangest experience in your
career???

We can’t remember one particular scene for the moment but sometimes when we are playing live people ask us to play RNB or Hip-hop...

12.What are your plans, any upcoming releases or events you wanna mention ???

Probably a Tegma Remix CD with mixes of some tracks from the album and possibly older productions aswell. Then later on this year we will start to work on another album, we do not know yet if it’s going to be Tegma or a sideproject.
